Real Madrid win in Leganés

2 hour(s)

Real Madrid were back from the international break with an emphatic victory, with a solid defensive display. Our team overcame Leganés at Butarque after dominating from start to finish. Mbappé scored the opener in the first half and Valverde and Bellingham secured the ninth LaLiga win of the season to close the gap on the leaders.

Madrid got off to a commanding start, attacking in the opposition half and looking to attack down the left. It was here that Mbappé created the first chances. With five minutes gone, Mbappé tested Dmitrović and then beat the home goalkeeper in the 10th minute after a fine through ball from Vini Jr, but the effort was disallowed for offside. While Vini Jr, Mbappé and Bellingham continued to cause problems, Leganés only went close to Courtois' area when Munir hit the crossbar, but it was brought back for offside.

Our team continued to go in search of a goal. Arda Güler almost scored in the 25th minute, thanks to a great individual piece of play on the right in which he beat two defenders and forced a save from the home goalkeeper. Altimira brought down Vini Jr. in the box ten minutes later as he tried to clear a ball, but neither the referee nor the VAR signalled a penalty. The Brazilian led the Madrid attack in the closing stages of the first period with several chances. He took advantage of a Leganés slip-up during build-up in the 43rd minute to win the ball back inside the box and set up Mbappé to make it 0-1. Madrid went into the break with a deserved lead.

The tempo of the game slowed in the closing stages. Real Madrid kept solid in defence against an opponent who attempted to close the gap but to no avail. But with more space up front, the visitors could have scored more goals. Mbappé had a chance to get his second in the 81st minute, but Dmitrović kept him out. In the 86th minute, Bellingham made it 3-0 with a header, finishing after Brahim's deflected shot off Tapia had come back off the crossbar. A win at Butarque and time to focus on Wednesday's Champions League game.
