Mikel Arteta and David Raya spoke to the media in the press room at the Santiago Bernabéu ahead of the Champions League quarter-final second-leg clash between Real Madrid and Arsenal (Wednesday, 9 pm CEST). The coach had this to say: “I have a lot of respect for Madrid's history and admiration for what they have done in this competition. It's incredible. If I had to pick one of the stages to be on, it would be this one.”
On comebacks
“That's part of history. We prepare to win. We have to believe, try to dominate and have the belief that we can beat them. It's part of the analysis of an opponent to understand why these things happen; it's a matter of chance and the quality they have. We have to be prepared and ready for any scenario.”
Preparation
“There are three clear aspects. One of them is the emotional aspect. This is very important. We have to prepare for this kind of game and be able to enjoy this kind of stage as well.”
Raya: “The atmosphere at the Bernabéu is something we can't control”
“We're confident and we'll try to replicate what we did in London. We have the momentum, the way we played in the first leg and we're here to make history, that's the most important thing.”
Atmosphere at the Bernabéu
“When we play in the Champions League, we know that we're going to play against the best teams and in the best stadiums. It's something we can't control. We have to focus on ourselves and do what we did in the previous game: create chances and score goals."
On a Madrid comeback
“Anything can happen in football. We have to approach the game to win it.”
