Ancelotti: "We're going to give our best in all areas: mentally, physically and technically"

Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the media at Real Madrid City in the build up to the Champions League quarter-final first leg. The Real Madrid coach discussed the game against Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabéu: "The important thing in tomorrow's game is to get the best we can. The mental aspect is very important, as well as the courage and personality we have to show on the pitch. We've had time to prepare and we've done very well. I'm confident we're going to give our best tomorrow in every way, mentally, physically and technically. We have enough quality to compete".

"It's a very appealing match. Two teams that are not alike are facing each other, as each has their own characteristics, but they are teams with a lot of individual quality on the pitch. Technically speaking, it's going to be a very nice game. We expect to be superior in some aspects and they will be superior in others. We'll see the superiority after 180 minutes. Whoever wins the tie will be the superior team".

Refereeing
"We're not thinking about that. There are other things to think about when preparing for a game like this. We have four players on yellow cards and if one of them gets a yellow card, someone else will play in the second leg. It's not a concern for tomorrow's game".

Comparisons with Guardiola
"It doesn't bother me. Guardiola is a great coach, I don't care much about what they think of me. I care what my club thinks. Guardiola is a great coach and there's no doubt about that".

Last year's tie
"We didn't play with courage and personality, which are fundamental aspects in this kind of game. We lacked that in the second leg. There was obviously also a lack of football in some situations during the game. It wasn't just a mental problem, but also a technical one. They put a lot of pressure on us up front and we didn't find alternative solutions. We want to avoid these things in this tie".

Are you nervous?
"Yes, very nervous. On a personal level, the hours before a match are a time when you have to suffer. I was thinking the other day that defeat is suffering and victory is happiness, but it's not that way. Victory is relief. It's happiness if you win trophies, but an isolated victory is a relief. You're calmer and happier the days after, but suffering is part of your job. It's what keeps you alive. It's fuel for me".

Individuals
"Knock out games rest at the feet of the players with the most quality. There are a lot of players in both teams who have a lot of qualities. That's what's going to decide the game, as it always does. Matches are determined by the players on the pitch. As well as the strategy, which must be clear and the players must be committed to doing it in the best way. There are a lot of things in matches like this: individual quality, duels, defences, counter-attacks... They have to be at their best. We have to manage all these aspects well".

Do Madrid have more creativity than last year?
"We have different attributes on the ball. We had Benzema last year, who was a focal point. We don't have a centre forward this season, but we've managed this absence with more movement. It's been good for us. Movement, not setting positions up front, could also be one of the keys to the game".

Belingham
"He's having a very good season in the penalty box. He's physically very strong and he's helping us a lot in the defensive aspects and up front to create space and provide movement. He's very mature. He's only 20 years old, but he's very professional, very serious and humble. He didn't surprise us as a player, but he surprised us as a person, because his head is very mature for his age".

Line-up
"I don't think there was anything unusual in the match. I'm not going to tell you anything, but you're not going to get the line-up wrong. You might miss one, but the line-up is pretty clear. I haven't told the players anything, there are some doubts. I'll tell the team tomorrow".

Expectations
"The first leg is very important, because we've got the chance to play in our stadium and we should look to make the most of the small advantage we have".

The players missing from the opponents
"They have players out, but they have handled them very well, as we have. Guardiola put centre-backs in to play as full-backs and they did very well. They're very solid at the back. It won't affect them".
