1-1: Castilla draw with Algeciras

1 week(s)

Castilla drew against Algeciras at the Alfredo Di Stéfano. Our reserve team went into the break with the lead after Gonzalo's 37th minute goal, but the visitors, when Raúl's team were at their best, managed to equalise with Javi Gómez's goal in the 61st minute. The points were shared in a match with a lot of pace and which the home side deserved to win based on play and chances.

The first chance fell to the visitors after thirteen minutes: Javi Gómez took a corner and Iván Turrillo's shot came back off the post. Raúl's side's response came just six minutes later and it was just as telling. De Llanos recovered a ball that looked like it was going into touch and surprised with a lob that, with Iker Venteo already beaten, hit the post.

Dominance
From that point on, Real Madrid Castilla were the only side that looked dangerous, and with the partnership of Víctor Muñoz and Gonzalo they began to clearly outplay the visitors' defence. The former had a chance in the 35th minute with a one-on-one from a tight angle, but his shot went high. A minute later, the latter tried his luck with a cross-shot from a pass from his team-mate, in which Iker Venteo shone. The link between the pair was unstoppable and they were rewarded with a well-deserved goal in the 37th minute. Víctor Muñoz received the ball on the right flank and beat Marino with a brilliant back-heel manoeuvre. His subsequent assist was seized upon by Gonzalo, who drove the ball into the net with the inside of his right foot.

Algeciras draw level
With the score at 1-0 at half-time, the first dangerous move after the break was for Algeciras, who could have extended the lead on 59 minutes when Loren Zúñiga had a one-on-one with Iker Venteo, who didn't make any mistakes. From a possible 2-0 lead, it was 1-1 with Javi Gómez's header two minutes later. The unexpected away goal hurt Raúl's side, who conceded the ball to their opponents until Yáñez almost put Castilla back in front in the 80th minute. It was after a great personal move that ended with a powerful shot that was blocked by the visiting keeper.

More chances
Even more noteworthy was the Algeciras keeper's intervention five minutes later in a clear one-on-one with Víctor Muñoz, who received a great pass from Gonzalo. The chances kept coming and, in stoppage time, Asencio's shot from an indirect free-kick grazed the post of the visitors' goal. De León also tried his luck with a great personal move, which ended in a corner after another intervention by the visiting goalkeeper. The points were shared in a match that Castilla deserved to win in terms of play and chances.
